These are some of the most common questions new customers ask before signing an electric service contract. If you have other questions, we're always happy to help. Please don't hesitate to call customer service.

  • If I change electricity providers will the reliability of my service change?

NO. Your electricity will still be delivered to your establishment through the same lines and poles no matter which REP, Retail Electric Provider, you choose to sign up with. The transmission of your electricity is still regulated by the PUCT, the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

  • What is the benefit of switching to a new provider?

SAVINGS! By switching to a new provider you are taking advantage of the competitive opportunity that deregulation made available in the electricity industry. If you choose to stay with the same provider you are acting as a price taker and not taking full advantage of the opportunity that the competitive market place provides.

  • What do I do if I experience a power outage?

You will still need to contact your local power company or TDSP, transmission distribution service provider, who is obligated by law to maintain your services.

  • Does everyone have the power to choose a new electricity provider?

NO. City-owned utilities and member-owned electric cooperatives still have the option of allowing their customers the power to choose, however, the majority of the state is open to competition. Check under our deregulation section for a full listing of deregulated cities in Texas.
